Circuses

The animals shown in circuses suffer aggressions from their owners during their lifetime, while they are trained and in order to learn their artistic numbers. Trainers often use whips and electric shocks to achieve their goals. Further more they chain the animals and deprive them of food and water. The continuous stress makes the animals develop stereotypical behaviours like moving from one side to another constantly. Others even display self – mutilation.

When they come into the ring, the animals act because they are afraid of the punishment. They do not really want to take part in those shows.
Circuses usually move around for thousands of miles and so do their animal. However the transport trucks are not conditioned nor ventilated, and usually the animal do not have access to food or water so many of them die while travelling.

The animals that do not die as a result of the way they have been exploited, will be locked in cages or sold to laboratories or private people at the time their use ceases to be profitable.
There are not just wild animals in circuses, also dogs and horses. Those species receive pretty much the same treatment as the other animal.

We are not against the circuses, nor want we to deprive kids and adults of fun, but we do not approve the fun of some based on the suffering of others.

If you want to see a good show that is not based on the harm of animals please consider circuses that do not use animals, such as the Cirque du Soleil.
